The Virginia Self Storage Association, together with the national Self Storage Association, has been successful in enacting its legislative agenda but awareness remains an important posture as changes to current law, new regulations or other disruptive policy issues could be lurking. Changes were made in 2015 by way of H1921, which became effective on March 16, 2015. The updates to the current law are listed below:
Virginia Lien Law
- Updated definitions regarding “self-storage facility; Owner; Occupant; Leased space; personal property; rental agreement; leased space; personal property; default; last known address; and verified mail.
- Permits lien notices to be sent by electronic mail.
