Thank you for attending the VASSA Annual Meeting- Recap of events
The 2019 VASSA Annual Meeting on October 24 was held for the first time at the newly remodeled Delta Hotel by Marriott Richmond Downtown. The meeting was a great success!
Nearly 170 attendees passed through registration to open the day, and also time to visit with the 23 industry leading exhibitors, followed by introductions and welcoming remarks by VASSA Board member Mac Walker of CW Investments. The educational sessions kicked off with Kevin Bledsoe of the presenting sponsor company, Investment Real Estate LLC, who led a session on the five tips to building self storage values. Next up was Chris Nebenzahl of Yardi Matrix with a report on the self storage market data report for the state of Virginia. Lynn Sykes of Storage Asset Management followed with a session topic on every owner’s and operator’s mind, the most effective methods for recruiting and hiring great employees. Bruce Jennings of Fairfax City Self Storage wrapped up the morning session with a legislative update for Virginia.
Next was lunch, sponsored by Boxwell, which gave attendees an opportunity to learn more about portable storage. After lunch, Carlos Kaslow of the Self Storage Legal Network gave a report on Virginia Legal issues followed by a lively Q&A. Following the legal report, Thomas Brook of PTI Security Systems and Todd McClure of Automated Security talked about how to utilize available technology to improve the tenant experience, a crucial topic in today’s increasingly tech reliant society. For the final education session of the day, Brandi Gerhart of Jack Rabbit Storage discussed the DMV process for Virginia and out-of-state vehicles.
From the exhibit floor, to the industry-expert led educational sessions, to the priceless networking opportunities, there was something for everyone at the 2019 VASSA Annual Meeting to enjoy.
